A Grande Time in Boca Grande!

What’s up guys? In July, I spent a fun weekend with family on Gasparilla Island, in Boca Grande, Florida! We ate at some good restaurants, went to some interesting places, and stayed in a cool condo.

We stayed at the Boca Grande Club in a three-bedroom condo. We had an amazing view of the Gulf of Mexico and could walk right down to the beach whenever we wanted, because it was so close. The condo was bright, pretty, beachy, and beautifully decorated!

One of the yummy restaurants we went to was South Beach. It was made up of three rooms: an outdoor deck and two air-conditioned dining areas. No matter where you sat, you got a beautiful view. I got fried shrimp off the kids’ menu, which was delicious.

The restaurant was decorated with a lot of ocean-themed artwork and had woven wicker chairs. You could walk right down to the beach, too, which I thought was cool.

Another delicious restaurant we ate at was the Pink Elephant. Inside, there were lots of wood tables and booths, which were like mini sofas with a nice green color. The restaurant had lots of pink and elephant touches, such as mini pink elephant figurines on the rim of your drink, pink cloth napkins, a pink elephant stained-glass window on the door, and a cute pink elephant wind vane.

At the Pink Elephant, I got a grilled cheese with French fries. The grilled cheese was on bread about half an inch thick, but it was super good.

On our last day, we went to two lighthouses, which were very different. The first one was very thin and tall and was called the Gasparilla Island Lighthouse, which you can see above. Did you know that it was actually built in Lewes, Delaware, in 1888 and then moved here in 1927?

The other one was called the Port Boca Grande Lighthouse and MuseumIt is on the south end of the island and looks out over rough waters of Boca Grande Pass, where the Gulf of Mexico and Charlotte Harbor meet. It wasn't nearly as tall as the other lighthouse and looked more like a residential house. This building is the oldest structure on Gasparilla Island and was built in 1890. Since 1999, the lighthouse has featured a museum. It wasn't open when I visited, but I'm planning a trip back to check out the museum!

We also walked around downtown Boca Grande. Downtown was quaint and quiet. There was not a lot of traffic, and the buildings were cute and mostly small. We looked in some stores like Fugate’s and Fresh Produce and ate at the Inn Bakery. We got a yummy, rich Nutella chocolate cupcake and a lemon tart that is one of the bakery's best-sellers.

I think that just about sums up my amazing trip! Oh wait…one more thing: the beaches are amazing!! Be sure to check Boca Grande out!
